PROGRAMS
Since its inception in 1986, the Climate Institute has expanded its reach and is currently working in the following program areas:
- Mexico & Latin American Programs: The Climate Institute and its Mexican partners are building the world’s Highest Climate Observatory in the State of Puebla, Mexico and are working with corporations, museums and cultural centers to build a High Altitude Global Climate Observatory Education and Outreach Center in the City of Puebla, Mexico.
- Islands Programs: Initiated in 2000, the Global Sustainable Energy Islands Initiative (GSEII) has been assisting six small island states in the Caribbean and the Pacific to implement sustainable energy plans and move from fossil-fuel based economies toward a renewable base. Recent efforts include the launching of the International Leadership Alliance for Climate Stabilization.
- Tribal College Climate Protection Program: The Climate Institute and various partners, including Haskell Indian Nations University, Northwest Indian College, and NASA's Tribal College and University Program (TCUP), are seeking jointly to coordinate an effective climate response strategy through the collaboration of tribal colleges, national colleges/universities and agencies that have strong environmental and science programs and a strong base of Native American students.
- Education & Outreach Program : The Climate Institute serves as a trusted source of information on the risks of climate change and the potential options for climate stabilization. It aims to make this information available through various channels including this website and a periodic newsletter, the Climate Alert.
